Just under a month ago, designer Kim Jones made his debut as creative director of Fendi with an haute couture collection that paid tribute to the Bloomsbury Set. 
Taking inspiration from the femininity and savoir-faire which have long defined the Fendi name, then tweaking it with a new fresh perspective.

'Fun isn’t always just about bright colors,' says Jones. 
'It can be about really luxurious self-indulgence, which pleases the person wearing it more than anyone else.'

Kim also drew inspiration from the house's former designer Karl Lagerfeld's legacy, with the Karligraphy monogram and the architectural heeled shoe reworked for a new era.

He also reprised motifs from his Couture collection through marbled silk dresses, rosette blooms, and delicate organza embroideries on jacquard knits.

The craftsmanship that the label is known for is present in a mink herringbone jacket made featherlight through its suspended construction, leather suiting inset with ajour embroidery, embossed Selleria stitching applied gabardine trenches, and Karligraphy monograms laser cut into suede.   

He also pulled in a continuation of themes from his couture debut, seen in the embellishment on slip dresses or wrap detailing on an off-the-shoulder dress.

Jones's proposition for knits and shirting, which involves sliding off one shoulder and knotting at the bust, might be a harder sell for the non-model types.

This season, the FENDI hand-in-hand project – which enlists craftspeople from each of Italy’s 20 regions to reimagine the iconic Baguette – translates Campania’s artisanal excellence into a limited-edition series of works of art.

The offerings directly reflect the empowered sensibility of the Fendi woman.


They include a modernized version of the logo complete with padlocks that can only be opened by dialing Fendi and wax seal pendants stamped with Karligraphy strung from golden chains, and metal cuffs, covered in leather and embellished with Selleria details.
